Written permits are not required for the movement of oversize loads on the Kansas Turnpike. However, due to the size and configuration of some loads, prior approval is required from a Chief Engineer, the Turnpike Highway Patrol Commander, or his designee, before such vehicles and/or loads can be moved or transported on the Kansas Turnpike. Movements of some or all oversize vehicles or combinations of vehicles may be temporarily restricted due to wind, weather, road or construction conditions. Click here to review our guidelines.
For more information or questions about oversize vehicles, please call Ed Hanlon at (316) 682-4537 ext. 2352.

Joe Bott, Captain Turnpike Highway Patrol Commander
A 10-foot width restriction is in effect at MM 5 on the Kansas Turnpike, near the Kansas/Oklahoma border. Vehicles wider than 10-feet should use Plaza 19: Wellington, to exit or enter the Turnpike.

The 236-mile Turnpike was constructed in 22 months and opened to traffic October 25, 1956.
